# The Loan Week > The Loan Week (theloanweek.com) answers one loan question per page: the monthly payment on a given US mortgage, house price, car, personal or federal student loan, what it costs in interest, and how much house or car a given income affords. Every figure is priced at the latest published average rate: Freddie Mac's weekly 30- and 15-year mortgage averages (latest: week of September 24, 2026), the Federal Reserve's G.19 commercial-bank rates for car and personal loans (May 2026 survey), Experian's averages by credit score (Q2 2026) and the fixed federal student loan rates for 2026-27. Figures are estimates at average rates, not loan offers, quotes or financial advice. How the numbers are made: payments use the standard fixed-rate amortization formula, payment = P × i / (1 − (1 + i)^−n) with i the monthly rate, at full precision; each page gives the monthly principal and interest, the total interest over the loan and the month-by-month schedule. Mortgage and house pages add estimated property tax (the state's median effective rate), homeowners insurance where a sourced state average exists, and PMI below 20% down (0.75% of the loan a year until the balance reaches 78% of the price). Affordability pages use the 28/36 rule for houses and 10, 15 or 20% of gross income for cars. Current averages: 30-year fixed mortgage 7.03% and 15-year 6.42% (Freddie Mac, week of September 24, 2026); new-car loans at commercial banks 7.14% over 60 months and 7.47% over 48 months, personal loans 11.86% over 24 months (Federal Reserve G.19, May 2026); federal Direct Loans for 2026-27 6.52% undergraduate, 8.07% graduate, 9.07% PLUS. Cite the publisher of an average, not this site, for the rate itself. Freshness: mortgage averages refresh weekly after Freddie Mac's Thursday release; the G.19 bank rates are quarterly surveys; Experian's tiers are quarterly; federal student loan rates change each July. Every refresh is logged at https://theloanweek.com/changelog/ and each page's dateModified shows when its own numbers last changed (currently September 27, 2026 at the latest). ## Main pages - [Home](https://theloanweek.com/): this week's averages, a live example and the most common amounts for every loan type - [Average loan rates this week](https://theloanweek.com/rates/): the latest averages for mortgages, car, personal and federal student loans, with sources - [Calculators](https://theloanweek.com/calculator/): mortgage, car, personal, student, affordability, amortization and payoff calculators, prefilled with the averages - [Comparisons](https://theloanweek.com/compare/): side-by-side costs of common choices: 15 vs 30 years, 60 vs 72 months, 10% vs 20% down and more - [About](https://theloanweek.com/about/): who publishes the site and how the numbers are made - [Contact](https://theloanweek.com/contact/): corrections, data questions and API questions ## Calculators and hubs - [Mortgage payments by amount](https://theloanweek.com/mortgage/): every mortgage amount with its monthly payment at the 30-year average - [House payments by price](https://theloanweek.com/house/): every house price with its payment at 20% down - [Car loan payments by amount](https://theloanweek.com/car-loan/): every car loan amount at the 60-month bank average - [Personal loan payments by amount](https://theloanweek.com/personal-loan/): every personal loan amount over 36 months - [Student loan payments by amount](https://theloanweek.com/student-loan/): every federal student loan balance on the 10-year plan - [How much can I afford?](https://theloanweek.com/afford/): house and car affordability by gross annual income - [Mortgage calculator](https://theloanweek.com/calculator/mortgage/): works without JavaScript;
